NOVEMBER VILLAGE EVENTS - INCLUDING BONFIRE NIGHT


Tuesday 5th November: GUY FAWKES NIGHT! Parade of Guys, Fireworks, Bonfire. From 6.30pm Five Bells



Sunday 10th November: REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY: Ceremony and Service.  

10.45 am War Memorial, followed by short service in Church.



Saturday 16th November: VILLAGE BARN DANCE following on the huge success of last year.  Callers and musicians from the Wyld Band.  Bring and Share Finger Food Buffet Supper.  Great fun for dancers and non-dancers alike. £5 on the door; proceeds to The Friends of St Candida. Details from Briony (01297 489546).   7 for 7.30 pm Village Hall

CHURCH CLOSED FROM THE 4TH-9TH OF NOV- UPDATE 4TH OF NOV CHURCH NOW OPEN

PLEASE NOTE THE CHURCH WILL BE CLOSED TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC FROM MONDAY 4TH TILL FRIDAY 8TH OF NOVEMBER, THIS IS DUE TO SOME WORK BEING UNDERTAKEN ON THE FLOOR.

THE CHURCH WILL OPEN AS NORMAL AGAIN ON SATURDAY THE 9TH OF NOVEMBER.


Dear All

Unfortunately the work in the church has had to be cancelled because too many of the woodblocks were damaged. and we will have to rethink.

So please note that the church is no longer closed.

Thursday 19th December: CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT The traditional Christmas
service of Lessons and Carols for Choir and Congregation, with the Whitchurch
Occasional Choir. Mince pies and mulled wine to follow! A HIGHLIGHT OF THE
VILLAGE YEAR. 7pm Church.

fruit and vegetables for the decorations or join us for coffee and a chat. 10 am Church

Friday 18th October: GRAND QUIZ NIGHT by The Friends of St Candida. Lots of
prizes, Raffle, Licensed Bar. Great fun in a good cause. Teams of four – call Alan (01297

Free Exchange Cafe October

The popular Free Exchange Café is open on Sunday, the 6th of October from 10.30 to 12 noon, in the Church at Whitchurch Canonicorum.

Enjoy freshly-brewed coffee, tea, croissants and pastries straight from the oven. Catch up with friends and neighbours, or browse the Sunday papers. Come for ten minutes or stay for an hour. 

Ros will be hosting the Children's Corner 

The Free Exchange Table is open, too. Bring something you no longer need, take something away if you like it or both or neither - whichever you choose, no money changes hands. Plants and Produce are always welcome. 

There's no charge for the Cafe (but feel free to leave a donation).

CONCERT CANCELLED TOMORROW

DUE TO THE UNCERTAINTY OF THE INCLEMENT WEATHER, ESPECIALLY FOR OUR SOLOISTS WHO COME FROM AS FAR AWAY AS TRURO, GLOUCESTER AND GERRARDS CROSS, THE SERVICE IS CANCELLED.

The Church of St Candida & Holy Cross
Whitchurch Canonicorum, Dorset

The second in the South West Organ Society's series of Bach Vespers services takes place on Saturday 2 February at 4pm in the beautiful setting of the Church of St Candida & Holy Cross, Whitchurch Canonicorum 

The service is based around Bach's cantata ‘Ich habe genug’, BWV 82, written for the Feast of the Purification 1727. Other music will include Prelude and Fugue in E flat, BWV 876; the sinfonia from Cantata 156 for oboe, strings and continuo; chorale prelude BWV616; and the motet 'Maria wallt zum Heiligtum' by Johannes Eccard. 

The soloists will be Jim Wills (bass) and Nicki Woods (oboe), and there will also be a small chamber orchestra and choir.
